NEW WINE FOR A NEW MARITAL SEASON BY SOLA & NIKE AJAYI

Every marriage, no matter how strong or spiritual, passes through different seasons. There are seasons of laughter, love, and deep connection and also seasons of testing, adjustment, and rediscovery. Just as nature changes from spring to summer, autumn to winter, every marital relationship experiences shifts that require intentional renewal.

The danger many couples face is trying to sustain today’s marriage with yesterday’s “wine.” In John 2:1–11, Jesus turned water into wine at the wedding in Cana. That miracle wasn’t just about physical wine; it symbolized divine renewal that God can refresh and restore what seems to have lost its sweetness. Likewise, every marriage needs a “new wine” for each new season, a fresh outpouring of grace, patience, and understanding.

When you first got married, excitement and passion might have carried you. But as responsibilities increase, children come, or financial pressure sets in, that first wine may run out. It doesn’t mean love has ended, it only means it’s time to invite Jesus again into your marriage, as the couple at Cana did. Without His presence, the joy of marriage soon turns into frustration. But with Him, water turns to wine, and bitterness becomes sweetness again.

Ask God for new strength to handle your spouse’s changing needs. Pray for new patience when communication feels strained. Seek new understanding when differences arise. The Bible reminds us in Isaiah 43:19, “Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it?” God is always ready to release something new but only if we are willing to let go of the old.

When your marriage enters a new season, whether it’s adjusting to parenting, an empty nest, career shifts, or aging together, don’t panic. Seasons change, but God’s love remains constant. What your marriage needs is not a replacement, but a renewal. New season, new wine, new wisdom.

So, pause today and pray:
“Lord, fill our home with new wine. Refresh our love. Renew our joy. Restore our unity.”

As you do, may the Lord breathe freshness into your marriage. Your love will not grow stale; your joy will not fade. Like fine wine, your union will only get better with time.

“And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins.” — Luke 5:37

New season. New wine. New wisdom. Let God refresh your love and renew your bond!
