Love is not enough in marriage By Sola & Nike Ajayi

Many people enter marriage believing that love alone will sustain it. Love is beautiful, powerful, and necessary but it is not sufficient. Marriage is not only a feeling; it is a lifelong commitment that demands maturity, responsibility, and daily effort. When emotions fade, what remains is character.
Love without understanding leads to constant conflict. Two people can love each other deeply and still hurt each other consistently if they lack communication skills. Marriage requires patience, listening, and the humility to learn your partner’s emotional language. Without these, love becomes frustrated and exhausted.
Love without commitment is fragile. Feelings change, seasons shift, and pressures arise. Commitment is what keeps a couple standing when romance is under attack. It is the decision to stay, work through pain, and grow together even when walking away feels easier.
Love without responsibility becomes selfish. Marriage demands sacrifice, financial discipline, faithfulness, accountability, and intentional care. A spouse who says “I love you” but refuses to change harmful habits will slowly destroy the union. Love must be backed by action.
Love without wisdom also fails. Couples need shared values, vision, and boundaries. They must learn conflict resolution, forgiveness, and emotional regulation. These are not automatic; they are learned skills.
In truth, love is the foundation, not the structure. Marriage stands on trust, respect, commitment, communication, and shared purpose. When love is supported by these pillars, marriage thrives. When it stands alone, it collapses under pressure.
Love starts marriage but wisdom sustains it.
