10 THINGS EVERY FATHER MUST TEACH HIS SON BEFORE MARRIAGE BY SOLA & NIKE AJAYI
As a Christian marriage and relationship coach, I have seen many marriages rise or collapse based on the kind of foundation a man brought into the relationship. A father’s assignment is not just to raise a boy, but to prepare a future husband and father. Here are 10 things every father must teach his son before he takes a wife.
1. TEACH HIM RESPONSIBILITY
A godly man takes ownership of his actions, his words, his home, and his future. No excuses. A husband must be dependable, accountable, and mature enough to lead.
2. TEACH HIM HARD WORK
Marriage is not for lazy men. Teach him diligence, excellence, discipline, and productivity. A man who works hard provides stability and confidence for his home.
3. TEACH HIM LEADERSHIP, NOT CONTROL
A Christian man leads with humility, patience, and service. Leadership is not domination, it is Christlike sacrifice and guidance rooted in love.
4. TEACH HIM EMOTIONAL STABILITY
A man must not be ruled by anger or silence. Teach him calmness, patience, honesty, and emotional self-control. Peace in a home begins with the man’s temperament.
5. TEACH HIM HOW TO TREAT A WOMAN
A wife must be honored, protected, and valued. No insults, no violence, no manipulation. Teach him gentleness, understanding, and compassion.
6. TEACH HIM FINANCIAL DISCIPLINE
Marriage requires planning. Teach him saving, budgeting, giving, investing, and living within his means. Money mismanagement is a top cause of marital conflict.
7. TEACH HIM COMMITMENT
Marriage is a covenant, not a contract. Teach him faithfulness, endurance, and loyalty. A committed man does not quit on his home during storms.
8. TEACH HIM CONFLICT RESOLUTION
Disagreement is part of marriage, but how he handles it matters. Teach him communication, patience, forgiveness, and maturity. No silent treatment, no public disgrace.
9. TEACH HIM SEXUAL PURITY AND SELF-CONTROL
A man without discipline becomes a danger to his own home. Teach him purity, self-control, and the fear of God. Faithfulness is the true mark of a godly husband.
10. TEACH HIM SPIRITUAL LEADERSHIP
A man must pastor his home. Teach him prayer, devotion, Bible study, and reliance on the Holy Spirit. A spiritually grounded man becomes a pillar to his family.
FINAL WORD:
A father’s wisdom is one of the greatest gifts a son can receive before marriage. When a man is trained, a marriage is preserved. If fathers teach these truths early, we will raise husbands who build, nurture, and protect their homes according to God’s design.
